Coaching Skills - It's not about the nail!

The Skill of Listening Actively

Active and deep listening means finding out what really matters to and for the other person, whether you understand or whether you agree with them or not.

The problem may seem really obvious to you (maybe the solution is too) but is the ‘problem’ really the problem?

It’s not always a matter of ‘hitting the nail on the head’!

Understanding where the speaker is coming from, how they feel, what their perspective is, and what it is they really need is crucial.

This is especially true for teachers, trainers and educators, but it is also true in all roles in life.

Nonetheless, listening actively without any agenda, without any preconceived notions, is a core coaching competency and a skill that coaches learn, practice and purposefully work to improve and enhance on a regular basis.
